MudBall Newsletter - Walker Simas
DRINKING
Currently enjoying an iced cortado at a coffee shop, but my weekly gamer is and has been Goodwalk’s MudBall Half Caff. It has doubled as my pre-workout, as I save my last 6-12 oz in the fridge for morning.
As for others, making sure to stay hydrated with the royal electrolyte trio: sodium (Redmons Real Salt), potassium (bananna), and magnesium (pumpkin seeds and/or a magnesium supplement).
EATING
It’s officially vessel season. This week, I am embarking on a taco & sandwich crawl. Sunday evening is taco night- carne asada, avocados, salsas, white onion, cilantro, fresh flour tortillas, all with good company. The week will be supported by ciabatta, hot capicola, provolone, and fermented peppers.
READING
Putting a bow on Sacred Pace by: Terry Looper this week. There have been so many ties to “The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry” as this book comes to a close. I continue to learn that change implies elimination just as much as it does adoption. Above all, balance is superior to burnout.
THINKING
I’ve been battling some tightness in the upper back, shoulders and neck this week, so there’s been a shift in focus to making sure that is addressed. I’ve suppressed the yoga due to other training, and believe it’s the magic tool to expose where my weakness is coming from. Surely enough, a few hours this week put me back into position. Blood flow IS healing, and if there’s a better tool, I’m not aware of it.
CULTURE
Not only did I enjoy reading the engagements with my Landmand Intro piece, but I’ve been noticing that the KingCollins/Landmand mafia is perhaps the best in the world at documenting a golf experience. I’d love to put together a “guest book” of sorts as a gift to the Andersens. For those who are eager to contribute- reach out, and let’s get some one-liners in a google doc!
COMPETITION
My goodness- so much to discuss here.
Firstly, the carnage at the Senior Open was worth the watch, and filled every void left by the weekend at The Open. They needed handheld Dyson’s out there! In round 2, the field went 0/70 on breaking par.
Read Brentley Romie’s article on Bryan Kim’s U.S. Junior Victory as a 52-seed.
Stanford’s Michael Thorbjornsen debuts as no.1 spot in PGA TOUR U’s Preseason Rankings- one solid spring away from a PGA TOUR Card.
ARCHITECTURE
For all of the wonderful moments golf owes Medinah, I believe we have many more coming. OCM Golf has been doing great work in Australia for well over a decade, but their work in the US will give them the recognition they deserve.
GUEST CHECK IN
2019 U.S. Mid Amateur Champion, Associate at CDP, and guest on TTP, Lukas Michel is heading back to the US in a few weeks for the Mid Amateur before heading back to Australia to work on on-going golf course projects.
We will have more coming your way on Wednesday,
