Hi! Walker and Henry here. We are two golf-obsessed individuals, and this is our outlet to share all we are learning about golf culture, competition, and architecture.

We started having these conversations long before any podcast, so this was a natural path forward for us in 2021.

Origin Story

Like many podcasts, we were born from a place of “someone else would find these conversations interesting.”

After starting a travel, competition, and architecture driven instagram and twitter following in High School and College, we decided it was time to take it up a notch and give people a deeper layer of our thoughts and experiences in the game.

As much as we love playing the game, the connections, competitive spirit, and nuts and bolts of golf course architecture are the real ingredients that we get fired up about. Speaking of ingredients, expect a healthy dose of food chat on the podcast as we pride ourselves on sharing about ourselves and the rest of our lives as much as the nitty gritty golf topics we dive into.

Tie Guys:

  • Henry Shimp Profile - The Tie Podcast

    Henry Shimp

Host, Podcast Lead, Course Reviews Liaison, Writer, Avid Traveler, Mid-Amateur Golfer, NCAA Champion, Above Average Home Cook. A Normal Day for Henry: Sushi Rolls: 6, Longest Putt Made (ft.): 5

Based in Austin, TX, Henry has worked in finance (PE, Real Estate) in his short career since graduating with his MS in 2021. He spends the majority of his free time traveling, building in time for a kick-ass workout, looking for coffee shops, and leading business development for our parent company, Sticks Golf.

Henry is a competitor through and through, but over the years, has drawn an appreciation for and exposure to the golf course architecture side of things.

“Above all, I’m most into the process of understanding who the main stakeholders are in a given project. That’s the edge that our listeners appreciate so much, I think, is our ability to know what questions to ask. When it comes to MudBallMonday, that’s all gone. I love the contrast between the formality of our traditional interviews and the rogue nature of the Monday Pods.”

  • Walker Simas

Co-Host, Podcast Media, Website, & Research. Crippling Interest in Golf Development, Architecture, and Construction. Supporter of #BigBlueberry. Knife Skills On Point, Don’t Ask About His Short Game.

Based in Jupiter, FL after a full summer in northern Michigan at High Pointe Golf Club. Walker has spent extensive time around golf development, and has recently made the jump to Sticks Golf full-time.

Walker is all-in on golf and believes that it’s a force for good economically, environmentally, culturally, and personally.

“Golf is an investment in yourself. Simultaneously, it’s an investment in beautiful land- people who appreciate its value for what it is rather than what it could be. Golf fosters community, it builds character, it keeps you present, it requires toughness, and it takes you places. Our goal is to plug into that positive feedback loop and make it accessible to anyone who enjoys what we put out.”
