MudBall Newsletter - Walker Simas
Drinking:
Going against the grain here, siding with the anti-fun committee, this week’s drinking consists of two beverages almost entirely made of H2O: water (add real salt) + my real DOC: GoodWalk’s MudBall Half Caff. We’re sipping into the early afternoon because, well, that’s what it was made for.
Eating:
My core ingredients for the week are posted below. I have fallen in love with these relatively high calorie, nutritiously dense foods.
Chorizo
Beef
Broccoli Rabe
Blueberries
Bananas
Dates
Eggs
Cosmic Crisp Apples
Greek Yogurt
Maple Syrup
Reading:
“Sacred Pace” by: Terry Looper
My favorite subchapter of the week was about being “Aligned before you Act”
These few paragraphs made me reflect on Steve Jobs who was known to pause mid-meeting or conversation and say “Why are we talking about this? What are we trying to achieve? And why is this relevant?”
Thinking:
I’m writing this under a massive live oak watching the sun set over Tampa Bay. It’s hard to think of much else at the moment.
This is my favorite two-week stretch in competitive golf. It seems like the players become the best versions of themselves in the home of golf. Competitive, but creative.
Thinking about HS! Fired up to watch him back in the madness of competitive golf. Stay tuned for some writing from him Wednesday.
Culture:
I’ve been mulling over some new ideas for halfway houses based on region. I hope somebody will like one enough to make it a mainstay. Please hit us in the DM’s.
Northeast:
Chopped cheese (FuQ a burgerdog- east coast can do it too. Lobster roll is unrealistic)
Pizza (and i’m talking good pizza. Coal is unreasonable, but I want some char.)
Southeast:
Mini Key Lime Pie (pop 3, thank u very much)
Chicken Salad Cannoli (I know it feels wrong. But think about it)
Midwest:
Corn fritters (somebody probably does this)
Nebraska Hand Pies (@landmand)
Southwest:
Cowboy Caviar (served in shooter cups, gas)
Ceviche w crumpled chips in a cup (Truly one of those “I need 4 bites of this and i’m good)
Competition:
The 151st Open Championship week is upon us. Will Rory avoid the kiss of death? No, surely not. Will Scottie find his putter? Will the weather want a scrambler, or a ball striker, or a magician- tradesman, luck-hound, underdog, or veteran to host the trophy on Sunday? We must wait to find out.
Architecture:
Dirt is being moved at Broomsedge! Excited to see the progress of the South Carolina site develop. Minimal shaping and maximum highlight of the contouring is going to deliver a really engaging stretch of golf holes. Buy some merchandise to support, and reach out to get involved!
This Week’s Menu:
Monday: Mud Ball Monday Episode 94: The Open Preview! 3 Holes and 3 Players to Watch!
Wednesday: Nebraska to Cherry Hills: Henry is US Amateur Bound
Thursday 8pm EST: Chandler Withington joins Walker on The Tie Podcast
Cheers,
