MudBall Newsletter - Walker Simas

DRINKING

Had some bevvy’s with friends Friday evening. Always important to keep friends close, but those long-form discussions in-person are tough to beat. Rounded the turn Saturday morning with H20 and some South America Dark Roast from our friends at goodwalkcoffee.com. Use code THETIE for 20% off your order! Mud Ball Half Caff to fuel the late morning, and that’s a recipe for success.

EATING

As discussed last week on MBM, Dip Of Choice (DOC) is the metric of the week.

Daily Gamer: Tomatillo Salsa

Personally, I’m usually buying salsa rather than making it at home unless there are tomatillos in the produce section. I almost always have garlic, cilantro and limes, so adding a jalapeno, some dried chiles, and some tomatoes is all I need to make it at home.

Goat, Not Often: Cuban Bean Dip

I shouldn’t even attempt to say that this is difficult. A can of black and pinto beans, a dark smokey spice mixture, cilantro, lime, onion, some avo, and optionally some queso fresco gets the job done.

Not Fav, But Gr8 Dip: GARLIC YOGURT

You’ll almost always catch me with unflavored greek yogurt on hand, so with some fresh garlic, acidity, and some green onion, this is a great accompaniment to any sort of beef or vegetable dish.

READING

I re-read Think and Grow Rich over the last two weeks, and this quote felt especially relevant:

“Every adversity, every failure, and every heartache carries with it the seed of an equivalent or greater benefit”

THINKING

Peak (sustainable) momentum for us is when we have access to our highest gears. Sometimes I feel like I’m in a lower gear, throttled up, “trying hard”, but am exhausted and know I am capable of more. When things are going well, they feel easy. For us, we may have to change our environment, or our attitude, or our inputs, to get access to that higher gear. What’s most important is doing our best work- not just professionally, but around the clock.

CULTURE

I’m fired up by what I’m seeing on social media these days, especially as fall golf continues along. Old Barnwell has put on an incredible debut, and have seen lots of you guys posting photos out there. But not just in the Carolinas- I feel like I can speak for us all by saying it has been an unconventionally great fall with lots of opportunity for not just golf, but good golf.

COMPETITION & FORMER GUESTS

64 (32 women, 32 men) players just finished up the Pan American Games played in Santiago, Chile. Three of the four in the American lineup are guests of The Tie Podcast- Rachel Heck (listen here), Stewart Hagestad (listen here), and Dylan Menante (listen here). 2022 Augusta National Women's Amateur champion Anna Davis rounded out the group.
